Императрица планировала освободить Константинополь от османского владычества и вернуть православным главную святыню — Святую Софию. Царскосельский храм, возведенный в 1782–1788 годах, стал символом этой будущей победы. Над проектом работал Чарльз Камерон, а также Е. Старов. Удивительно, но мы попали сюда впервые, хотя бываем в Царском Селе десятки раз — обычно наш маршрут пролегает исключительно по императорским паркам.
