Аморфофаллус титанический — это растение, которое заставляет забыть всё, что вы знали о «прекрасных цветочках». Это настоящий рок-н-рольщик от мира ботаники: он огромен, дурно пахнет и появляется на публике раз в несколько лет, устраивая настоящий ажиотаж.
Это растение не просто большое, оно монументальное. Высота может достигать 3 метров. Под землей скрывается гигантская «картофелина» весом до 100 килограммов.
В дикой природе он растет только на острове Суматра, а в ботанических садах его цветения ждут десятилетиями.
Если обычные цветы привлекают пчел ароматом нектара, то Аморфофаллус делает ставку на других парней — мух и жуков-мертвоедов. Для них он создает идеальную имитацию... гниющего мяса. Когда цветок раскрывается, он начинает источать сложный «букет» из запахов тухлой рыбы, несвежих яиц и грязных носков. Более того, верхушка цветка (початок) нагревается до 36–37°C, чтобы запах распространялся как можно дальше по джунглям.
Большую часть времени растение проводит в виде огромного одиночного листа, который больше похож на дерево. Но раз в 5–10 лет происходит магия. Вместо листа из земли начинает стремительно расти гигантский «бутон».
Цветение длится всего 24–48 часов. В это время ботанические сады переходят на круглосуточный режим работы, а очереди к цветку выстраиваются на километры. Как только опыление (или его имитация) завершено, огромная конструкция вянет и разрушается буквально на глазах.

Как-то он убил подряд двух тигров-соперников, а через неделю победил тигра, убившего его отца.
Навряд ли им двигало чувство мести, просто Чотка Матка любит старое-доброе насилие. День без драки для него — зря прожитый день. Кстати, его имя переводится как «глиняный горшочек».
Зоолог, наблюдающий за Горшочком с рождения, описывает подопечного: «Он родился в луже крови и бензина, его плоть рвали на части зубы соперников и рога буйволов — но он, блин, просто неубиваемый!».
Чотка Мотка обитал в Тадобе — месте, где тигров много, причем самцов больше, чем самок. Между самцами постоянно происходят столкновения — в таких жёстких условиях Чотка Матка смог отвоевать себе огромную территорию и удерживал ее много лет. Сейчас он на пенсии — зоологи поймали и отвезли уже пожилого Горшочка в убежище для диких животных. Было решено, что легендарный тигр заслуживает спокойной старости.
Молодого пересмешника нашли на земле и доставили в больницу для диких птиц. Во время осмотра выяснилось, что у него сломаны несколько пальчиков — из-за этого он почти не мог ходить и удерживаться на лапках.
В Птичьем центре Флориды ему сделали специальные поддерживающие «ботиночки», чтобы лапы правильно срослись. Примерно через две недели пальчики восстановились, и пернатого пациента перевели в большой уличный вольер — там он заново учился держаться на ветках и тренировал полёты.
В 2023 году в городе Теколука, расположенном в Сальвадоре, была введена в эксплуатацию тюрьма максимальной безопасности под названием CECOT. Её проектная вместимость составляет 40 000 человек. Основное назначение этого учреждения — изолировать не обычных правонарушителей, а тех, кого власти считают особо опасными представителями преступных сообществ страны.
В CECOT содержатся лидеры, организаторы, убийцы, вымогатели и тюремные «смотрящие» из банд MS-13 и Barrio 18, которые долгое время контролировали территории, занимались насилием и управляли криминальной системой.
Условия содержания в этой тюрьме чрезвычайно строгие: заключённым не разрешены свидания, они не покидают здание и лишены доступа к образовательным и реабилитационным программам.
Из-за этих особенностей CECOT воспринимается не как обычное исправительное учреждение, а как центр строгого заключения для наиболее жестоких и влиятельных криминальных фигур Сальвадора.
