25 октября, Неделя 21-я по Пятидесятнице. Сегодня мы вспоминаем отцов VII Вселенского Собора. Тех подвижников благочестия, которые окончательно установили догмат иконопочитания, успокоив тем самым волнения, длившиеся в церкви долгое время, прославив сотни святых исповедников, отдавших свои жизни за подлинное учение нашей Православной веры.
Участники Собора констатировали, что почитание, оказываемое иконам, относится не к самим изображениям, не к доскам и краскам, а к тем, кого они изображают, — Христу, Богородице и святым. «Честь, воздаваемая образу, восходит к первообразу, и поклоняющийся иконе поклоняется ипостаси изображенного на ней», — говорится в догмате. Было также подчеркнуто, что почитание икон является выражением веры в воплощение Бога через Иисуса Христа. Важно, что этот догмат различает понятия «почитание» (греч. προσκύνησις) и «поклонение» (греч. λατρεία), где поклонение принадлежит только Богу.
