Преподобный Евфимий Новый, Солунский, в миру Никита, был уроженцем города Анкиры в Галатии. Родители его, Епифаний и Анна, вели добродетельную христианскую жизнь, и сын их с детства был кротким, честным и послушным. Семи лет он остался без отца и вскоре стал опорой матери во всех делах. Пройдя воинскую службу, Никита по настоянию матери женился. После рождения дочери он тайно оставил дом, чтобы поступить в монастырь. 15 лет преподобный Евфимий подвизался на горе Олимп, где научился у старцев монашеским подвигам.
Потом преподобный переселился на Святую Афонскую Гору. По дороге, узнав, что его мать и жена в добром здравии, он известил их о том, что стал иноком, и послал им крест, призывая последовать его примеру. На Афоне преподобный принял великую схиму и жил три года в пещере, в полном безмолвии, борясь с искушениями. Долгое время святой Евфимий подвизался на столпе, недалеко от Солуни, наставляя приходящих за советом и врачуя болезни. Преподобный настолько очистил свой ум и сердце, что сподобился Божественных видений и откровений. По повелению Господа святой Евфимий в 863 году на горе Перистера, недалеко от Солуни, основал две обители, которыми управлял 14 лет, оставаясь в сане диакона. В одной из них приняли постриг его мать и жена. Перед кончиной преподобный удалился на островок, находящийся у Афона, и там почил в 898 году. Мощи его перенесены в Солунь. Преподобного Евфимия называют Новым в отличие от преподобного Евфимия Великого (память 20 января).

19 октября 2026 года сгорел дом и всё имущество настоятеля Казанского храма пос.Большая Речка Иркутского района священника Михаила Мельниченко. Его многодетная семья осталась без самого необходимого и сейчас особенно нуждается в нашей общей поддержке.
Всего детей в семье отца Михаила шестеро. Двое уже взрослые, детей до 18 лет четверо: сын (17 лет) и три дочери (15, 12 и 9 лет).
В связи с этим по благословению митрополита Иркутского и Ангарского Максимилиана в ближайшее воскресенье, 25 октября 2026 г., во всех приходах Иркутской епархии по окончании Божественной литургии пройдет тарелочный сбор наличных средств в помощь семье священника Михаила Мельниченко.
