• Злоумышленники начали готовиться к атаке заранее. Первые признаки подготовки появились как минимум 28 октября — тогда кошельки пополнялись через Tornado Cash. Уже на следующий день хакер тестировал механизм EIP-7702 на собственных адресах.
• Tether не успел заблокировать 6 из 11 кошельков: злоумышленники действовали быстрее эмитента стейблкоина.
• Чтобы максимально быстро конвертировать USDT в ETH, преступники были готовы переплачивать около 20% за Ethereum. Всего за 35 минут связанные с атакой кошельки обменяли 435 млн USDT на 160 451 ETH.
• Всего за два дня до инцидента Binance сообщала об успешном отражении атаки северокорейских хакеров. Тогда использовалась схема Contagious Interview: злоумышленники проводили фальшивые собеседования и отправляли разработчикам тестовые задания, запуск которых приводил к установке вредоносного ПО.
