From Product to Process — and Back Again: Rethinking Writing Instruction at High Level Exams

This seminar poses a question:
Are we teaching students how to write essays — or how to become better writers?

Writing is neither a product nor a linear process. It is a circular process in which writers move back and forth between planning, drafting, reading, revising and rethinking their ideas. 

The idea is that effective exam writing requires not simply producing a strong final product, but developing the ability to continually reinterpret and reassess the text in the process of writing.

The goal of high level writing instruction is not to help students produce a perfect first draft. It is to help them develop the ability to see their own text critically, which will be shown in practice.
