В 1994 году вышел дебютный альбом Korn. Низкие семиструнные гитары, звонкий щёлкающий бас и голос Джонатана Дэвиса звучали непривычно даже для любителей тяжёлой музыки. Этот альбом стал одной из главных отправных точек ню-метала.
Вместо привычной гонки за скоростью Korn сделали ставку на грув, диссонансы и нервную атмосферу. Их риффы могли быть простыми по нотам, но цепляли ритмом: гитары то оставляли пространство, то обрушивались всей тяжестью.
🎸 Откуда этот звук?
Брайан «Хэд» Уэлч и Джеймс «Манки» Шаффер использовали семиструнные гитары, низкий строй и необычные эффекты. Партии часто дополняли друг друга, создавая скрипы, шорохи и тревожные мелодии.
Бас Филди при этом хорошо слышен отдельно: его ударная манера игры стала такой же узнаваемой частью Korn, как гитары и вокал.

Короткое вокальное вступление — и сразу в бой: резкие риффы, плотные барабаны и Кори, который переходит от агрессивной подачи к цепкому припеву. В клипе — маски, зеркала и холодный свет. Камера постоянно меняет ракурсы, усиливая ощущение замкнутого пространства и хаоса.

Металкор вырос на стыке метала и хардкор-панка. В 1990-х его формировали Converge, Earth Crisis и Integrity, а в 2000-х Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying и Parkway Drive помогли жанру выйти к широкой аудитории.
В его основе — тяжёлые риффы, агрессивный вокал и брейкдауны: ритмически разреженные части с мощными акцентами, под которые на концертах начинается самое интересное. Многие группы добавляют мелодичные припевы и чистый вокал, хотя для жанра это не обязательное правило.
