If anyone asks “what happens if you rush the salon?” — I’m your case study. Let’s call this my “pain‑to‑vocab” project 😁

OK, club! I’ll be there tomorrow — and brace yourselves 🤭

This post exists because my hair experiment hurt a little (okay, a lot 😅), and I figured the best way to heal is to turn it into a vocab lesson.

So, the saga: my appointment with my usual stylist didn’t line up time‑wise, and I ended up at the nearest salon. Spoiler alert: it was not a match made in heaven 😬.

The result? Way, way off my original plan. I tried to fix the colour, but couldn’t fully rescue the situation. At that point, “fixing” became “making peace with the outcome” 🤷.

Now I’m rocking this… unique shade. Is it purple‑pink with a brownish undertone? Or brown with a splash of pink‑purple? Honestly, I’ve stopped trying to label it 🙈.
My stylist insists it’s still in the blonde family — I’ll take that as a very generous interpretation 👌.
But it’s the best we could pull off under the circumstances. And if nothing else, it’s a great excuse to practice hair‑colour vocabulary!

Rain-related words

Rain (general term)

The basic word for water falling from the sky. No special nuance — just “rain”.
Example: It’s raining heavily today.

Drizzle

Light, fine rain that falls steadily but isn’t strong. It’s more about the texture than the duration: the drops are tiny.
Typical collocations: a light drizzle, it’s drizzling, a steady drizzle.
Example: We walked home in the drizzle; our hair was only a little damp.
Use in speaking: good for cozy autumn posts and small talk: “It’s just a drizzle, nothing serious.”

Downpour

A sudden, very heavy rain. Stronger than “heavy rain”; it sounds more dramatic and immediate.
Typical collocations: a sudden downpour, caught in a downpour.
Example: We got caught in a downpour and were soaked within a minute.
Use in speaking: for storytelling and emphasizing how bad the rain was.

Pouring (it’s pouring / pouring rain)

Very common informal way to say “it’s raining very hard”. Less formal than downpour.
Example: Don’t go out now — it’s pouring!
Use in speaking: natural in casual conversations and texts.

Torrential rain

Extremely heavy rain, often used in news and forecasts. Sounds more “official” and intense than pouring.
Example: Torrential rain caused flooding in several areas.
Use in speaking: better for describing serious weather events rather than everyday chat.

Shower(s) (not 🚿)

Short, often sudden periods of rain that don’t last long. The focus is on the brevity and sometimes the intensity. Usually plural (showers) because they come and go.
Typical collocations: scattered showers, a brief shower, a heavy shower.
Example: There were a few showers this morning, but the sun came out after lunch.
Use in speaking: perfect for weather forecasts and everyday talk: “They’re predicting showers later.”
