Coffee itself reached Vietnam in 1857 with a French Catholic priest.
Today Vietnam is the world's second-largest producer after Brazil, and the largest grower of robusta, which makes up about 95% of its crop.
Asia is still the home of tea, yet coffee is the faster-growing drink there.
On 31 October we follow the coffee bean's whole journey, from Africa through colonial plantations to today's hipsters, at an exclusive roastery, and you take part in the roasting yourself.

Most readers finish this book shaken, so it is a surprise to learn how its author sees it.
In an interview with The Paris Review, Kazuo Ishiguro said he thinks of it as a cheerful book, because it was his way of
“saying positive things about human beings against the rather bleak fact of our mortality”.
He wanted his 3 main characters to be essentially decent, and when they understand how little time they have, he wanted them to care about each other and about setting things right.
On Saturday we would like to hear whether you read it the way he did, or found it as devastating as it first seems.

Tonight at our Time Traveller’s Game we offer to explore the Paris of 1679 that is rather different from the one in the news headline this week.
No preparation is needed. Just a screen and the mind set to solve the mystery of poisons at the Louis XIV’s court.
What: Time Travellers' Game The Affair of the Poisons.

“La vie, la vie, à un sou le petit verre!”, which means “Life, life, one sou for a little glass!”
That was the cry of the water carriers in the streets of Paris at the time of the Sun King. In a city where drawing from the Seine was forbidden and public fountains were few, they sold life itself, one small glass at a time.
In that same city, another trade was thriving: fortune-tellers selling love charms and arsenic “inheritance powders”. The Affair of the Poisons accused 442 people and reached the king’s own circle.
Tomorrow you step into that world during our game night.

The story of coffee begins in Africa, in the highland forests of Ethiopia, where the wild coffee plant still grows.
Legend says a goatherd noticed his goats dancing after nibbling red berries.
From there the drink travelled to Ottoman coffeehouses, European courts and colonial plantations, and finally to your morning cup.
On 31 October we follow the whole route, in an exclusive roastery, and you take part in the roasting yourself.
A seed that went round the world and changed it: the perfect last word for October’s Reaping What We Sow.
