And this starts to make the bigger picture more interesting.
Workers are readily available.
Many people are looking for additional work.
A significant part of the workforce operates outside the traditional employee model.
So for a business, sometimes it may simply be easier to hire another person than to automate every little process.
That’s why you walk into a shopping mall and see:
A cashier.
Another person next to them.
Security.
Several cleaners.
People helping customers.
Someone at the entrance.
Someone watching the parking area.
And you think:
“Why are there so many people here?”
Then you start looking at it differently:
“Maybe human labor here is simply more affordable, available and culturally normal than what I was used to.”
And that raises a much more interesting question.
Mentality?
Availability of workers?
Labor costs?
Informal employment?
Labor regulations?
Or all of these together?
I’m not an economist or a labor-market expert. I’m just living here, observing what’s around me and trying to understand why things work the way they do. 🇵🇭
